"Perspectives on Greece"
When one is trying to describe a travel adventure, there are three questions that must be answered: Did it fulfill all your dreams? Were your traveling companions extra special? Were the accommodations and tour guide much better than expected?
A resounding "YES" can be answered for the Springville Museum of Art Association Classical Greece Tour. Arriving in Athens was the beginning of the dream. Syn
tagma Square, the Parliament Building, Archeological Museum, the Ancient Roman Agora, Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Zeus were all overwhelming, but only the beginning of the historical adventure.
Climbing to the top of the Acropolis and seeing the Parthenon was a very emotional event, and Meteora and Delphi defy description. with the changing of the guards, the boarding the cruise ship Aquamarine was a special treat with comfortable state-rooms and views of the islands in the Aegean Sea. Reaching Mykonos in the evening included a lighted stroll through the white-washed buildings and view of the historic windmills.
We then cr
uised to the resort town of Kusadasi, Turkey, to visi
t the ancient city of Ephesus which was a highlight for many on the tour. Excavated ruins gave a clear description of life in ancient times. Continuing on to Rhodes, we visited what m
an
y say is the best preserved medieval city in t
he world. We then sailed to the isle of Santorini, famous for its white-washed cities high atop a volcanic crater in the dazzling blue Aegean Sea. Back on the mainland, we visited the very well preserved Mycenaean Archeological site of the second millennium BC, viewed Athens by night, and concluded the tour with a Greek Taverna Farewell Dinner and traditional Greek Dance. A perfect ending to a perfect tour!
