42nd Annual Art Ball

 Art Ball a Hollywood Blockbuster!

The 42nd Annual Art Ball, held 3 May from 7-11p.m. under spotlights at the Springville Museum of Art, drew nearly 900 attendees, including many of the Utah artists participating in the 84th Annual Spring Salon Exhibition. Even Ghandi, Scarlett O’Hara, the Phantom of the Opera and a few rogue pirates of the Caribbean showed up to celebrate this year’s theme: Puttin’ on the Glitz – Hollywood Style. The Caribbean Pirates won the costume contest during the dance portion of the evening.

After guests ‘walked the red carpet; to enter the Museum, they were treated to a veritable feast for the senses—art, food, music, and dancing. Marvellous Catering created a sumptuous buffet and guests enjoyed watching students from All Things Art create artwork in the galleries. Musicians entertained at every turn, including the Blue Sky Jazz Trio, the SHS Singers under the direction of Leanna Crockett, Megan Walker Nelson, Anna Mooy and Leslie Walker, and headliners Gordon Harkness and Bob Bailey. And the heartiest party goers enjoyed dancing late into the evening with the Moonlight Serenaders.

Following a tradition over 100 years old, the new Art Royalty were crowned with Tairsa Brown as Queen, and attendants Amberly Asay, Nikki Erekson, Libby Jensen, Rachel Thompson and Stephanie Richey.

A hearty thanks goes to the following major sponsors of this year’s Art Ball: Art City Trolley, Copies Plus Printing, Far West Bank, Leland and Beverly Bird, Marriott, McDonald’s, Neways International, Nu Skin Enterprises, and Susan’s Party Rentals. Many Springville and Mapleton businesses also generously donated Silent Auction and Door Prizes: Beveled Edge Framing, Brian Trapnell Orthodontics, Checker Auto, Gift of Grace Christian Supply, Hobble Creek Singers, Jeff Goodsell Art, Krieger-Ricks, Medallion Limousine, Partyland, PepsiCo, Profiles Art & Frame, The Retreat, Ream’s, Springville Floral, Steiners Floral, True Touch Massage, Vaud Hanks & Sons, Wal-Mart and Walker Physical Therapy.

Proceeds from this year’s event will support the development of the new Museum sculpture garden. Currently on display at the Museum is “Wayne Thiebaud: 70 Years of Painting” and the 84th Annual Spring Salon, both shows worth seeing. The Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 10-5, Wednesday 10-9, and Sunday 3-6, and is free and open to the public.
